I’ve decided to try a kind of modified square foot garden.  Apparently, you can optimize space by dividing things into squares, rather than planting in rows.  I’m going to try beans (2 varieties), peas, cucumbers, zucchini, carrots and two kinds of melons.  I’m most optimistic about the beans and peas, but Patruck is insisting on the melons.  (hmm…that sounds kinda funny.  ha-ha funny.)

I plan to post a cost breakdown later, but for now I must shower!  Wish me luck and keep your fingers crossed - because we’re just winging it!

Hey, I can’t believe the difference you see when you look out your window versus what I’m seeing right now. Snow and more snow.
FYI – zukes and cukes SPREAD like crazy and ‘attach’ to whatever’s in their paths (i.e. small, defenseless little carrots). I think melons do the same but am now 100% sure of this, squash/pumpkins do and for some reason, i’m lumping melons into the same growing style. Just something to keep in mind when you are planning your planting.
Sounds fun, maybe we’ll get to plant something one day.

I wonder if I can put them all in one half and create some sort of “barrier” in between.

I’ve been reading about companion gardening and trying to come up with a lay out! also, need to have the bigger plants to the north. the issue is that i don’t really know which plants are bigger!

The great thing about being down here is that i can have a fall crop too! so, i get two chances to experiment per year!
